On June 2-4, 2015, UNFPA Armenia, with support from USAID, organized a workshop on innovative approaches in ensuring better access to and improving of quality of care on reproductive health care in Armenia, and a following training on AccessRH software for procurement of modern means of contraception.

The events were attended by 60 representatives of MoH and Ministry of Finance, Heads of Hospitals, Procurement Specialists, OB/GYNs, Pharmaceutical companies and private pharmacies, NGOs, Insurance Companies, and Regional Administrations.

“The participations of all actors of reproductive health field in the workshops provides an opportunity for finding new solutions to current challenges”, said Ms. Narine Beglaryan, one of the organizers of the workshops.

During the workshop innovative approaches and international experience in reproductive health commodity security, such as the Total Market Approach (TMA), was presented to the participants. TMA is a concept allowing the players in the market to cover the needs of their specific populations, ranging from socially vulnerable to economically well-off strata. The participants developed a draft action plan for further TMA roll out in the country. MoH of Armenia committed that this action plan that  will be used during the development of the next generation of the national reproductive healthcare strategy.

During the AccessRH training the participants advanced their knowledge and skills on calculation of needs by using of AccessRH catalogue, budget planner and lead time calculator.

The facilitators of the events were Ezizgeldi Hellenov, UNFPA international expert, Vahe Gyulkhasyan, UNFPA Reproductive Health Project Coordinator, Ms. Narine Beglaryan, UNFPA/USAID TMA Project Coordinator, Gayane Avagyan, Head of Maternal and Reproductive health Department of RA Ministry of Health, Hasmik Mnatsakanyan, Chief Specialist of Financial-Economic Department, MoH, and Anahit Ayvazyan, Head of the Department of Rational Use of Medicine and Information, Scientific Center for Drug and Medical Technology Expertise.
