“We attach particular importance to the Demographic Strategy of Armenia for 2024–2040, developed with the support of UNFPA, which should become one of the key priorities for the next five years. Considering the global challenges in development financing, it is more important than ever to ensure sufficient resources for the full and effective implementation of the Country Programme. We are confident that the continued support of our partners and our effective cooperation will play a vital role in addressing the diverse development challenges facing Armenia. This Programme fully reflects the aspirations of our people for a more inclusive, prosperous, and resilient Armenia,” said Robert Abisoghomonyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

Adopted by the UNFPA Executive Board in August 2025, the new Country Programme Document was developed through an extensive, year-long consultative process involving government institutions, UN agencies, civil society, and development partners.

“Armenia is at a crucial point in its development, facing significant demographic challenges. Our new Country Programme is a transformative path to addressing these challenges by fostering demographic resilience, empowering individuals, and building an environment where everyone can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society,” said Klaus Beck, UNFPA Deputy Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia and Country Director for Armenia.

“Armenia’s future prosperity will depend on investing in people — in their health, education, and equal opportunities. UNFPA’s focus on sexual and reproductive health, youth empowerment, gender equality, and population dynamics directly contributes to these shared goals, ensuring that no one is left behind,” underlined Francoise Jacob, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Armenia․

Lusine Sargsyan, UNFPA in Armenia Head of Office, emphasized the collaborative foundation of the new programme and UNFPA’s long-standing partnerships. “This Programme Document builds on our long-standing partnership with Armenia to advance demographic resilience and human capital development. It focuses on strengthening systems to deliver quality, youth-responsive reproductive health and gender-based violence services, while enhancing policies that promote reproductive rights, gender equality, and youth empowerment.”
