Background and Objective
 
A safe and successful passage from adolescence into adulthood is the right of every child. This right can only be fulfilled if families and societies make focused investments and provide opportunities to ensure that adolescents and youth progressively develop the knowledge, skills and resilience needed for a healthy, productive and fulfilling life. Further, national and global development, security and social justice can only be achieved if adolescents and youth are included as full and active participants. UNFPA partners with young people, helping them participate in decisions affecting them, and strengthening their ability to advance human rights and development issues such as health, education and employment.
 
In Armenia one of the major UNFPA initiatives in this area was the establishment of Youth Peer Education (Y-PEER) Network in Armenia, where young people share their knowledge of sexual and reproductive health related issues with their peers. In addition, UNFPA supported introduction of Healthy Lifestyle education curriculum in the state education program for 8-11 grade students of all schools in Armenia.
 
The Project Coordinator substantively contributes to the effective implementation of the UNFPA activities in the area of youth development, including youth health education and strengthening youth engagement through the establishment of youth platforms. 
 
Duties and responsibilities
 
Under the overall guidance of the UNFPA Assistant Representative, the Project Coordinator assists in the coordination, design, planning, implementation and monitoring of project activities contributing to CP Output 2. The Project Coordinator will take responsibility on administrative and operational compliance of the activities, as well as providing administrative and logistical support services for smooth implementation of the action. S/he will be responsible to coordinate actions in a timely manner according to the project timetable, plan and delivering high-quality outputs.
 
Major Activities/Expected Key Results
 
Coordination of Project Activities and Resources
  • Overall coordination and technical assistance provided in development of project activities, preparation of project Annual Work Plan (WP) and ensuring its timely delivery;
  • Preparation and follow-up on project procurement plan; 
  • Organize the planned events of the project; assistance in arranging logistics, preparing agenda and coordinating with related stakeholders for organizing workshops as and when required;
  • Prepare the project’s required reports;
  • Preparation of budget revisions, closer follow up of project budget expenditure and tracking of overall project delivery within the set timeframe;
  • Preparation of quarterly project reports, in line with the monitoring and reporting guidelines/tools on a timely manner;
  • Managing and monitoring the contracts signed with third parties in order to ensure the receipt of services on time

Monitoring of project activities and expected results

  • Monitoring progress towards overall Project results through supporting regular review of activities and results, and through encouraging regular collection of data as indicated in the monitoring and results framework;
  • Monitor the bottlenecks, problems, unexpected deviations and possible delays constantly and propose revisions in the action plan if necessary
  • Undertake periodic Project reviews and visits to support strategic planning, monitoring progress of the activities and results, promote knowledge-sharing and enhance advocacy work (supervise development and dissemination of project advocacy tools, publications and infographics
  • Maintain records on all project personnel/national consultants and their respective status (TORs, time and attendance – if appropriate, etc.) in accordance with accepted policies and procedures;

Providing admin/logistical coordination to project implementation

  • Mobilize and manage project  personnel, goods and services, training and initiate activities, including drafting terms of reference and work specifications and facilitating all contractors’ work;
  • Coordinate selection of project consultants;
  • Pro-actively contribute to day-to-day project implementation 
  • Make pertinent logistical arrangements for the prompt and effective implementation of the project activities;
  • Arrange for equipment maintenance as required;
  • Other duties, as may deem necessary
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
  • Relevant university education in Education, Public health, Youth studies, Population, Social Science, Development Studies or related field;
  • Experience in training and education and health promotion among young people; 
  • Experience in working with youth-led organizations/institutions working on youth issues, including youth policy related issues;
  • Familiarity and experience with UNFPA and Y-PEER is an asset ;
  • Excellent knowledge of English and Armenian languages;
  • Proficiency in current office software applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet);
  • A positive and professional approach;
  • Initiative and sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work in harmony with people of different backgrounds/cultures;
  • Highly motivated, proactive, able to work independently, with strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
