The International Day of Families brought together in the Tavush region more than ten families from the different marzes (regions) of Armenia with the local community to celebrate equality and respectful relationships in the family.

The event with the main chord - "We are strong together," took place on 15 May 2022 in Ijevan and Achajur, Tavush region, and was organized by UNFPA Armenia, Gyumri Youth Initiatives Centre NGO, and WINNET Armenia Network of Women Resource Centres. 

Families participated in outdoor games and bicycle races and enjoyed the performance of the "Adana Project" music band.

Tsovinar Harutyunyan, the head of the UNFPA Armenia office, stressing the idea of ​​a harmonious and strong family, said at the official opening of the event, "We work with the state, communities, and partners to sustain strong families built on love and respect in Armenia. Each family member must be valued and have the opportunity to realize their potential."

"Our Constitution provides strong guarantees tօ ensure the rights of families and children. Still, every citizen must make an effort to ensure an atmosphere of love and solidarity. The more united, healthy, and loving the family is, the more developed the state will be," Kristine Grigoryan, Human Rights Defender of Armenia, emphasized.

The event brought together representatives of the Ijevan and Achajur municipalities, the UNFPA Armenia Office, the Office of the Human Rights Defender of RA, Gyumri Youth Initiatives Centre, WINNET Armenia Network of Women Resource Center, and other non-governmental organizations.

"Family Corners of Shirak, Lori and Tavush regions have joined us today. These Corners try to provide proper education to young couples and convey the experience of positive parenting. Dads matter! Moms matter! So, they must be equally involved in the family care and the child's upbringing," said Arthur Najaryan, Chairman of the International Board of Gyumri Youth Initiatives Centre NGO.

UNFPA Armenia organized the event together with the Gyumri Youth Initiatives Centre NGO and WINNET Armenia Network of Women Resource Centres and within the framework of the following projects: UNFPA "Population and Development" Project and EU Funded 3 Projects: "EU 4 Gender Equality: Together against gender stereotypes and gender-based violence", "FUTURE TODAY: Empowering women, youth and children for deepening democracy in Armenia," and "Addressing Gender Biased Sex Selection and related harmful practices in South Caucasus: support for regional, national and South-South interventions."
