"I learned that a person at any stage of his/her life must strive to achieve her/his goal or dream"

"Every person has the right to freedom; any kind of violence violates that right; violence must be punished"

"I am very much interested in this lesson because we are learning about the friendship, solidarity, "putting ourselves in someone's shoes"

These responses were accumulated from the monitoring of the pilot implementation of the Healthy Lifestyle curriculum conducted in the 5th, 7th and 10th grades in the Tavush region.

The monitoring special tools were developed to observe the lessons and to gather feedback from pupils. During the monitoring, the experts attended 34 schools in Tavush and observed 60 classes. The assessment papers filled by the pupils showed that more than 90% of them were keen to participate in the lessons and they mentioned that they liked also the format of the lessons.  The below-presented infographics show what pupils learned from the classes and what are the main takeaways.

Since 2020 UNFPA has contributed to the state educational reforms and thanks to the joint efforts of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of RA and the UN working group (UNFPA, UNESCO, UNICEF, and WFP) led by UNFPA the piloting of Healthy lifestyle education clubs in the state schools of Armenia was conducted. The pilot was launched in the Tavush region.

As a result of the initiative, Healthy Lifestyle Education is considered a priority by the State and has become a part of the new school curriculum.

During the first phase of the initiative, a working group was established by the UN agencies, consisting of 10 experts covering different areas of Healthy Lifestyle Education, including sexual and reproductive health and rights, relationships and gender roles, prevention of violence, growth and hygiene, healthy nutrition, safety, mental health, etc.

The working group developed a new Healthy Lifestyle curriculum for the grades 5-11, a teacher’s manual for the grades 5, 7, and 10 included in the pilot, as well as developed teacher training materials. In October 2021 the capacities of 90% of percent of the teachers (about 140 teachers from 74 schools) working in the pilot Tavush region were built during a 6-day training to deliver the Healthy Lifestyle education.

This year the same working group of multidisciplinary experts will develop a teacher's manual for piloting the Healthy Lifestyle Education club in grades 6, 8, 9, and 11. As well as the teacher training materials for the 6, 8, 9, and 11 grades will be developed and they will be trained in October.
