Ms. Tsovinar Harutyunyan, UNFPA speaks in front of AUA students

At the request of American University of Armenia (AUA), Ms. Tsovinar Harutyunyan, UNFPA Armenia Program Analyst, delivered a lecture to AUA students about gender equality, gender based violence and prenatal sex selection. UNFPA Armenia received the invitation from Hilda Grigorian, MBA, PhD, Adjunct Assistant Professor at Manoogian Simone College of Business and Economics, AUA.

Ms. Harutyunyan presented to the students the Sustainable Development Goal 5, Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, and the prospects of achieving it in Armenia. She spoke about the challenges and ways to overcome those, when working towards implementation of SDG 5 and its targets. She also presented noteworthy data about Armenia in terms of gender equality, such as the UNFPA Men and Gender Equality in Armenia study, as well as data on Armenia's global gender gap index.
 
A large portion of the lecture was devoted to the issue of prenatal sex selection in Armenia, the reasons behind it, an ways to overcome this harmful practice. Ms. Harutyunyan also answered students' questions.
