On December 19, UNFPA Armenia and Armenia Round Table Foundation launched a three-day workshop for clergy on the work with domestic violence victims and perpetrators. The training is a part of their joint "Spiritual Support to Families" Project.
His Grace Bishop Mushegh Babayan and Reverend Father Zakaria Baghumyan opened up the training and spoke about values that underlie the Project and the collaboration with UNFPA Armenia.
Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia and UNFPA Representative in Armenia spoke about the fruitful partnership with the Armenia Round Table Foundation and, through them, with the Armenian Apostolic Church since 2010, stressing on the common aim: fostering peaceful and harmonious relationships within Armenian families and the society as a whole, based on mutual love, respect and equality.
Tsovinar Harutyunyan, UNFPA Assistant Representative, welcomed the participants and facilitated the workshop.
The workshop was led by David Gevorgyan, expert-psychologist, and Armine Mkhitaryan, sociologist, social work expert, and Karine Kocharyan, Armenia Round Table Foundation expert.
The training focused on skills for working with domestic violence victims and perpetrators (practical work, situational staging and analysis), responsibilities and authority of a social worker when working with domestic violence victims and perpetrators, inter-sectoral and inter-professional co-operation mechanisms.
