UNFPA and Ministry of Defense signed Cooperation Agreement for 2019

On May 2, 2019, UNFPA Armenia Country Office and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Republic of Armenia signed the cooperation agreement for 2019. Signatories were Colonel Aleksandr Avetisyan, Head of MoD Human Rights and Good Behaviour Centre, and Tsovinar Harutyunyan, UNFPA Armenia Assistant Representative. 

The 2019 agreement sets the following objectives: 
1. Promoting participation of women in the policy development and decision-making processes within the defense system.
2. Promoting initiatives targeting the inclusion of women in various subdivisions of the armed forces while paying special attention to the involvement of the women in subdivisions that take part in peacekeeping missions.
3. Development of the culture of protection of women’s rights and ensuring equal opportunities within the defence system and introducing the monitoring mechanisms for its protection.

UNFPA Armenia and the MoD of Armenia have started fruitful their cooperation since 2014, aimed at ensuring women's protection and equal opportunities in the Defence Sector.
