On July 24 2019, UNFPA Armenia and the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, with the help of AUA Turpanjian School of Public Health, presented a report on Midwifery Education Assessment. The assessment was carried out in 2018 and finalized in 2019.
The presentation was organised for the representatives from different organisations involved in the development of the midwifery education in Armenia. Particularly, the UNFPA, WHO, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia, the Ministry of Health of Armenia and the Heads of Medical Colleges of Armenia.
The Presentation outlined the work in the field of midwifery education conducted in Armenia and presented an assessment of the educational curriculum. The Presentation was followed by a discussion of the new and existing measures to improve the quality of midwifery education.
“The Assessment shows how far the midwifery education in our country meets international standards, which is an important indicator. But perhaps the most important issue that we were getting at is what direction should be taken to improve obstetrician education in Armenia. That is why it was very important to hear the opinions from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and from the Heads of Medical Colleges,” said Tsovinar Harutunyan, UNFPA Armenia Assistant Representative.
“We, as part of the UNFPA, felt an acute need to cooperate with the Ministry of Education on introducing concrete reforms, particularly on altering the educational curriculum of Medical Institutions in Armenia,” said Vahe Gyulkhasyan, UNFPA Armenia Reproductive Health Program Analyst.
