On February 14, 2012, the sixth Gender Theme Group (GTG) meeting took place at the UN House in Yerevan.
The GTG that includes representatives from different UN agencies, international community, RA Governemnt and NGO sector, has a purpose to promote and support the mainstreaming of gender as a crosscutting issue in development agenda of Armenia.
The meeting was opened by Mr. Garik Hayrapetyan, UNFPA Assistant Representative who introduced the new co-chair from UN, UNICEF that will replace UNFPA in representing the UN in the GTG. The other two co-chairs, OSCE Yerevan Office and RA Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs will sustain.
A number of issues were discussed during the meeting, such as the progress on implementation of GTG Work Plan, developments in the area of legislative improvements (on equal rights and equal opportunities and domestic violence), and improvement of gender statistics in Armenia.
At the end of the meeting the group watched and discussed the documentary “For Survival” (2011) on domestic violence in Armenia.
