August 12, 2012, Yerevan, Armenia - To celebrate International Youth Day in Armenia, young people launched a dance flash mob in a crowded public square in the capital, Yerevan.

The flash mob started at 7:30 p.m. when a young man turned on a stereo and started playing music at the busy Piazza. This sparked the "Wake Up" dance, and a squad emerged from the crowd to join in. More and more "awakened" young people became part of the vibrant dance and soon the dancers were passing the beat to the general public. When the dance ended, participants unrolled a “Youth, Wake Up!” banner to present to the crowd of onlookers that had gathered.

As a call to the country’s youth, this slogan promotes the message that young people should not take a passive stance towards the difficult issues they are facing, but should instead tackle life’s challenges head on.

The flash mob was organized by UNFPA Armenia, Armenia Y-peer Network, and the NGO, Solidarity
of Generations.
