On December 8-9, 2019, with support of UNFPA Armenia country office, a two-day professional discussion of demographic improvement strategy was held with participation of representatives from Government, expert community and academia members, representatives of the media and civil society organizations. Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia led the discussion.
Mr. Smbat Saiyan, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, and Ms. Tsovinar Harutyunyan, UNFPA Armenia Assistant Representatives greeted the participants and presented the goal of the discussion.
Mr. Artak Markosyan, Head of Demography Division of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs made a presentation on the existing demographic realities and issues of RA.
Mrs. Anna Hovhannisyan, Coordinator for UNFPA Armenia Population and Development Project, talked about the best international practices in terms of implementation of programs affecting the demographic situation.
Other presentations included one made Mr. Arman Sargsyan, Director of the National Institute of Labor and Social Research, on factors affecting demographic situation, challenges and solutions, as well as another by Mr. Smbat Saiyan, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, on key provisions of the demographic situation improvement strategy.
Mr. Ruben Yeganyan, demographer, made a presentation on the territorial differences in fertility rate.
The meeting concluded with a professional discussion regarding development of the demographic strategy.
